Eben Bayer is the CEO and co-founder of Ecovative. In 2008, Eben was the winner of the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge. He received 500,000 euro to further develop Ecovative. Ecovative is a material science company developing a new class of home-compostable bioplastics based on mycelium, a living organism. Mushroom Materials are high-performance, environmentally responsible alternatives to traditional plastic foam packaging, insulation, and other synthetic materials.
Eben uses biology to create disruptive solutions that are good for people and the planet. He has evangelized a strategy of bio-adaption around the world, including presentations at TED Global, PopTech, and The World Economic Forum in Davos.
Eben is also interested in augmentative neuro-systems, thermodynamics, education, and monetary systems modeled around life. He serves on the external advisory board of the ASU Origins project, the business board of Tech Valley High School, and advises start-ups in and around New York.
On being on the jury this year, Eben says: "Each year some the best thinkers and doers working on green technology convene in Amsterdam to present their Big Idea - I am so excited to see what this years group has to offer the world. I'm also thrilled to have the opportunity to sit on the other side of the table this year and bring the perspective of a past contestant to the deliberations."
