OptiFlow SideWing is a unique aerodynamic solution that reduces the aerodynamic drag of a trailer, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and reduced carbon emission for long-haul operations. A modular panel system on the side of a truck or trailer operates as a wing-shaped airflow conductor.
OptiFlow is acquired by WABCO, a global supplier of technologies and services that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, operating since 1869. The SideWing is the first product in the OptiFlow range.
Launched by Ephicas in 2011, the SideWing is already installed on more than 100 vehicles within 17 major European commercial vehicle fleets, where it delivers long-haul fuel savings up to 5 per cent. Independent tests verify that these fuel savings are up to 3 times greater than those delivered by comparable competitive products.
The three founders of Ephicas, a spin-off company from Delft Academy of Technology in the Netherlands, joined WABCO from the time of the acquisition.
