Your company Land Life Company was announced this year winner. It must have been a wild ride for you. The days prior to the finale were about meeting the other finalists and fine tuning your presentation. How did you experience these three days?
The last 3 days preparing for the final competition were very intense and positive. Even though the finalists are competing against each other, the sessions were set up to encourage our collaboration and strengthen each other’s presentations. We came from different backgrounds and business experiences but all had running a sustainability focused start-up in common. We learned a lot from each other as a result and found we complemented each other’s skill sets.

The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is the largest annual international competition in the field of sustainability innovation. In what way did winning this competition contribute to your business?
Winning the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge has given our business tremendous momentum. The prize money is of course a huge boost to our company and our goals, but the real value lies in the positive attention, exposure and the endorsement of our business plan and product. In the days following the final we were on the radio, TV and in many press articles. Our partners are excited and we have numerous people and organizations reaching out to us to collaborate. The Postcode Lottery’s track record in sustainability, combined with the caliber of the jury panel, has validated our work to date and been a kick start for scaling up our business.

What are the next steps for Land Life Company?
In our case, we are currently setting everything in motion so we can implement large-scale tree planting projects in Mexico, Spain and California. We want to show that large scale restoration is possible, achievable. Our Cocoon technology is 10 times cheaper and requires 1000 times less water than traditional irrigation and now we have a platform to show the impact of that efficiency at scale. With these demonstration projects we can showcase how to effectively restore the natural environment in a sustainable way and inspire others to get involved in this important mission.
