Forest Wool
Tamara Orjola (The Netherlands)
Forest Wool develops and markets innovative textile fiber products made of pine needle slash – waste of timber industry.
Textiles are fundamental to our society, providing us with curtains, furniture, and clothing. The fashion industry in itself, which consumes 70% of global produced textiles, is one of the most rapidly growing industries in the world. Globally, the sector has been significantly contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, chemical pollution, and water pollution. Meanwhile, extensive demand for natural fiber farming is driving deforestation and impacting biodiversity.
By utilizing locally available resources to their best potential, their goal is to diversify the mono-culture-driven industry and to develop natural textile fibers that are good for our bodies and the environment.
